In the late 1970's, I participated with a small group of amateur friends to make wine. One thing led to another, and in 1985, I bonded Salamandre Wine Cellars...which turned into a 40 year adventure in agriculture, wine chemistry, lots of grueling work, some writing, some politics, and most joyful of all...many treasured friendships. The winery closed, with sadness but sensibility, on the eve of 2025. There are things I just could no longer manage as the birthdays piled up. I'm including some technical Winemaker's Notes, and I selected some of my favorite, whimsical Newsletters.
You'll notice a substantial overlap between the wine and the wilderness mentality, and indeed, that was a wonderful harmony.
